I was Stumbling this morning and Stumbled Upon a site called Nerdy Day Trips that I simply have to share!

You can use the site to find day trips in any given area (looking at the map, it looks like day trips are particularly popular in the United States, Canada and Europe, with many other countries included).

As you browse for day trips on the map, you can get details and visit the site from the 'pin'.   You can also add your own 'pin' to the map to share your favorite nerdy places!

Stop by and visit the site (its free and easy) at ... let me know what you think!

A Few Easy Ways To Earn Extra Cash Online - Fast! (Superpoints, Mypoints, Jingit)

You always see people trying to find great deals online, and some of the best I've found (and tested myself) are for earning cash or gift cards. They are:

I've received over $100 in gift cards of my choice so far, and have earned enough points to redeem over $200 more (I just don't know what I want yet). Note here - I've been a member for years, and spend only about 5 minutes every other week or so going through the emails and clicking for points. Its that easy!

See how easy MyPoints is - click here!

I've been actively using Superpoints for about 2 weeks and am up to $15.00, which I can redeem for either Amazon gift cards or Paypal payment. It is super easy to earn on here with simply clicking a button to see if you win. It is MUCH faster to earn points when you get people to join... because when a team member wins, you win!

Superpoints is an invite only platform.  Here are some invites (if one does not work, try the next or leave me a comment with your email and I'll send you an invitation)

So far I've earned over $40. Users can earn a maximum of $5-10 per week. You start with a max of $5.00 and for each friend you refer, you can earn an additional $0.25, up to $10 per week. You can redeem your earnings on a Visa card (one time $2.00 fee for the card itself), or use your earnings to buy music downloads on

Click here to give Jingit a try! You'll be amazed how quick and easy it is!

Have a similar site that has worked for you or have questions?  Leave me a comment!  I'm going to try to do regular posts and give updates on how much I'm earning.

Block "Private Caller" Phone Calls FAST Using *77

Over the past few months we've been getting some annoying prank phone calls from a "Private Caller" REALLY late at night, which isn't good for sleeping toddlers. Calling them back or reporting them wasn't possible due to their blocked number not showing on our Caller ID. I finally called our phone service provider today to see if anything could be done, and they told me about *77.

*77 Stops any calls with blocked numbers from successfully calling our number. Legitimate callers can follow a prompt and unblock their phone number, while those wishing to remain anonymous will not be successful!

So if you want to block Anonymous callers from bothering you, use *77. For me it is a free service, but double check with your service provider to make sure it is included in your phone service!

I wish I had known about this service before!

Bring Bathtime to New Levels of Fun - Have a Glow-in-The-Dark Bath!

I got this idea from Pinterest the other day... and it has been a HUGE hit in our house! Encourage the kids to have a little fun... in the bath... by turning off the lights.

Throw in a few glow sticks (we have a bunch from parties/halloween), so we just pick a few, activate them and throw them in the water for lots of bathtime fun.  When you throw them in the water, they really light up.  There are three thin bracelet sticks in the tub in this picture.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

PS - I did a search online and you can find these pretty cheap on Ebay!

Pure Pearls Freshwater Bracelet: Simply Perfect (For ANY Occasion)

Pearls are ageless, timeless, and have endless beauty, I've said that before, and I stand by it!  Pearls make women of all ages feel special, like they are princesses.  I think that is one of the reasons why I love to wear pearls.

They enhance our beauty, and they give us a sense of pride and confidence...  and they make us feel really, REALLY special, or at least that is how I feel when I'm wearing them.

I also believe that pearls are one of the most versatile pieces of jewelry that a girl or woman can have, be it earrings, a bracelet, or a necklace (or all three).  They can be dressed up with a fancy dress (think prom, weddings, Sunday best), or they can be worn with jeans for a day out with the girls, or date night.

(My grandmother gave me an heirloom strand of pearls when I graduated, and I have worn them for just about every special occasion I've had since, including my wedding and numerous family portraits.)

I received my very first pearls as a gift from my Grandma when I was a little ballerina, and again when I graduated.  They created a very special memory for me, so I highly encourage simple pearls as a wonderful gift.  Need a gift for Mother's Day, a birthday, a new ballerina, a new bride, a graduate? Pearls are perfect!  They also make a perfect gift for yourself!

I've found the selection and prices at to be wonderful, and their quality is amazing.  The site is elegant, easy to navigate, and they have a huge selection of pearl jewelry in all price ranges with free shipping in the US.  They have a large assortment including: Pearl Bracelets, Freshwater Pearls, Pearl Sets, and even some great pearl jewelry for Men.

I was given the opportunity to review Pure Pearls' AA+ 7.0-8.0mm Freshwater Pearl Bracelet (which comes in white, pink, lavender, multi-colored or black).  I had previously reviewed a beautiful Lavender pearl necklace and lavender pearl earrings from Pure Pearls, so I chose this one in lavender to match.

When the bracelet arrived, I eagerly opened the beautiful black velvet case and put it on.  I was amazed.  Not only did they match perfectly, but the color is just beautiful.

The bracelet arrived inside an elegant velvet box, which was nestled inside a white gift box.  The necklace came with a GIA Prepared Appraisal Certificate, and care instructions.

I got them just in time to wear to my Grandmother's 93rd birthday tea lunch with some of the girls in our extended family.  I really enjoyed the compliments I received and the ability to dress up and have fun for a special occasion.

Now, courtesy of, one of my readers will get to feel special too... read on for more...

SS Brand BBQ Rubs and Marinades: Full of Flavor With Wonderful Results

When I heard about an opportunity to try out a few S&S meat rubs, I was ecstatic!  You see, our family uses our outdoor bbq grill year-round, and I love to try new things (don't believe me??  I'll see if I can find the recent picture of bbq-ing in almost a foot of snow!)

I was sent two samples of meat rubs (Poultry Rub, Coffee-Cocoa Rub) created by Spencer O'Meara and Sarah Burchard, the talent behind the San Francisco-based brand.  I decided to try them both out on some chicken so I could compare them with our family side-by-side.

Poultry Rub:
A perfect blend of herbs and spices for all of your poultry needs, no matter whether you are roasting, frying, grilling or sauteing.
2 oz tin ~ $7.00
Coffee-Cocoa Rub:
Using the best ingredients from the San Francisco bay area, Blue Bottle Coffee and TCHO chocolate, we have created a rich, nutty and herbaceous rub great for braised meats, grilled lamb chops or steaks.
2 oz tin ~ $7.00
* As a side note, I was especially excited to try out the Coffee-Cocoa Rub... as a life-long Seattlite with Scandinavian roots, coffee has been a big part of my life... even though I don't drink it.   Gasp - yes, I admit to not being a huge fan, although I have worked at an espresso stand and love coffee ice creams and other coffee flavored treats.  So I loved adding a coffee-based rub to my ever-expanding list of coffee-ish recipes - this will be a staple at our house.

When I cook with rubs, I either do the traditional "rub" where you rub the seasonings into meat and let it rest prior to cooking, or I create a wet rub by putting some olive oil into a zip-lock bag and adding the rub seasonings, squishing it around to make sure it is nicely mixed, then adding the meat and letting it marinade for a few hours.  I used the latter method and had GREAT results!

I created two marinade bags and let the chicken marinade in the refrigerator for about 3 hours.  I then heated up the grill and got cooking.  I like to turn my meat every few minutes so it stays moist and doesn't dry out.  This was great for the rubs as it kept the juices on the chicken and they turned out wonderfully.

The kids are sometimes picky when I put spices on "their" meat, so I was also impressed that each boy kept scarfing the chicken until it was gone.  In the picture of the cut chicken, the Coffee-Cocoa Rub chicken is on the left and the Poultry Rub chicken is on the right.

It is rare that I find a marinade or rub that the entire family loves, but both of these were thumbs up by everyone.

Check out their website for some great recipes that use their rubs and marinades.  Here are a few: Bacon-Ranch Potato Salad (I can't wait to give this one a try), Baked Beans, BBQ Spiced French Fries, Coffee-Cocoa Braised Short Ribs.

Also find them on Facebook and Twitter!

Creative Steps Magazine: One of THE Best Kids Activity and Learning Magazines Available for Parents

Creative Steps Magazine is one of THE best children's (ages 0-11) activity and learning magazines I've ever had the pleasure of viewing! Unlike lots of other child-related magazines, this one is FULL of activities to do with children in different age ranges.

There is very little advertising, leaving the majority of the magazine full of child-related  articles: most are activity based (crafts, projects, games), with some age-appropriate kids books, and a few recipes.

This magazine would be great for anyone who has or works with children (pre-school teachers, elementary school teachers, day care providers, kids groups, Brownies groups, parents, grandparents, etc), as their goal is "Helping Kids Learn Through Creative Play."

The quarterly magazine is based in the UK, and has both digital and print editions available.

I can't stress enough how many GREAT projects each issue has!  Our family received two issues, each of which had between 90-100 projects and activities.  We have two boys (ages 2 and 5), and I sat with each of them for about 30 minutes just poring over the fun stuff to do.  We've picked out quite a few to do, starting this week, so over the next few weeks, hopefully I'll get some pictures to share on here.  :)

Here are some great sample pages from the Spring 2011 issue of Creative Steps:

My Thoughts on the Print Version:  I have to admit that I am a bit partial to something I can physically hold and carry around with me on playdates, and to have in my purse in the event that I have to wait somewhere, especially with the kids, and this is a great magazine to have with me.  The colors are bright and there is so much great content to look through!

My Thoughts on the Digital Version:  I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the digital version, and you MAY be able to convince me that this is the way to go!  Not only can you view it online, but you can choose to download (in PDF format) individual pages or the whole magazine.  So, if you wanted to do a specific project but didn't want to be tied to the computer for the step-by-step directions, you could download the pages and print them out!  You don't have to worry about losing the magazine, and it won't take up any physical space.  PLUS - subscribing to the digital version will save you a bunch of money, especially for those of us in the US.
