Teaser Tuesday: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

TEASER TUESDAYS :
hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading ~

"Good Night, Mercy," he said.

Then he was gone, and the room seemed emptier for his leaving it. I'd better go in the morning, I thought, as I listened to the snow squeak under his feet as he walked away.

~ page 92 “Moon Called: a Mercy Thompson Novel" by Patricia Briggs

About Moon Called: A Mercy Thompson Novel by Patricia Briggs:

Werewolves can be dangerous if you get in their way, but they'll leave you alone if you are careful. They are very good at hiding their natures from the human population, but I'm not human. I know them when I ' meet them, and they know me, too.

Mercy Thompson's sexy next-door neighbor is a werewolf.

She's tinkering with a VW bus at her mechanic shop that happens to belong to a vampire.

But then, Mercy Thompson is not exactly normal herself...and her connection to the world of things that go bump in the night is about to get her into a whole lot of trouble.

Teaser Tuesday: Black Ties and Lullabies by Jane Graves

TEASER TUESDAYS :
hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading ~

Black Ties and Lullabies
"Bernie, when Max turned around and saw you, his tongue was hanging so far out of his mouth I thought he was going to step on it. You look incredible. And I want very much for you to enjoy yourself tonight."

~ page 346 “Black Ties and Lullabies" by Jane Graves

About Black Ties and Lullabies by Jane Graves:

A good girl can be bad for one night...

Bernadette Hogan doesn't make mistakes. Not when it comes to caring for her mother, and not at her job protecting Texas's most eligible--and infuriating--bachelor. Maybe that's why she's overcome with guilt after one tiny indiscretion: a passionate fling with her boss that's left her confused, intrigued...and pregnant.

but can a bad boy be good for a lifetime?

To self-made millionaire Jeremy Bridges, women are like fine wine: if held for too long, they sour. But one wild night with Bernadette changed all that. She makes him laugh, she makes him think, and soon she's going to make him a father. For the first time, Jeremy wants to be a one-woman man. So how can he convince the fiercely independent Bernadette he's ready to change from partying playboy to dependable dad--and become the loving husband she deserves?

Aromafloria's Healing Waters Collection (Gently Scented, 5 Products Designed to Purify, Exfoliate, Smooth and Firm)

Healing Waters Collection  by Aromafloria is one of my all-time favorite spa type bath collections.  What is not to love about this wonderful collection?  Not only do I love the gentle scent, but the products let me feel pampered in my own house and had a great impact on my skin.

I don't quite know how to describe the scent, other than to say it is now one of my favorites.  It has a very light scent that is not overpowering at all, but rather very heavenly... a little bit floral with a hint of citrus maybe. Regardless, it is a wonderful scent that I find relaxing and soothing.

I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite product from among the Healing Waters Collection.  I think I'd have to go with the following combination: Sugar/Salt Scrub (exfoliates and invigorates skin, leaving me feeling tingly clean and fresh!), followed by Anti-Aging Lotion (this gentle and very light lotion soaks in quickly, leaving my skin soft with absolutely no residue), with a fine mist of the Dry Body Oil (this is a wonderful fine mist spray that soaks in quickly and does not leave oil on my skin).  I have to try really hard not to do this too often as I feel so wonderful when I do it.

The Healing Waters Collection by Aromafloria: Bath/Shower Gel - Purifying Treatment, Dry Body Oil - Smoothing Treatment, Anti-Aging Lotion - Firming Treatment, Sugar/Salt Scrub - Exfoliating Treatment, Salt Soak - Mineral Bath Treatment

Bath/Shower Gel - Purifying Treatment: Gently wash away impurities and drench your skin in moisture with the aid of Healing Waters’ pharmacist-formulated Bath and Shower Gel. An exclusive blend of natural marine botanicals laced with potent, healing antioxidants create indulgent bubbles in the bath, or clean-rinsing lather in the shower. Do right by your skin.

Dry Body Oil - Smoothing Treatment: Drench your skin in baby softness and get a gorgeous glow with this absorbent, natural body oil. Healing Waters’ pharmacist-formulated blend of nourishing vitamins elegantly entwines with hydrating borage and jojoba oils in a gentle, sheer formula that helps repair skin’s natural protective barrier and locks in long-lasting smoothness. Your moisturizer will be jealous.

Anti-Aging Lotion - Firming Treatment: Artfully tone and transform while simultaneously fighting further aging with a pharmacist-formulated paring of marine extracts and active caffeine. Replenish skin’s top layer with nurturing, non-greasy borage oil and shea butter. Your body will thank you for the smooth appearance and silky feel. Look as young as you feel. Feel as young as you look.

Sugar/Salt Scrub - Exfoliating Treatment: Gently scrub your way to radiant, even skin tone with Healing Waters’ pharmacist-formulated scrub. An exclusive blend of mineral-rich sea salts and sumptuous organic sugar granules gently renew, slough away impurities and leave softer, healthier -looking skin behind. It’s luminosity you can see.

Salt Soak - Mineral Bath Treatment: Reward your aching muscles for a job beautifully executed by sinking into a tubful of wellness. Allow a pharmacist - formulated blend of natural potassium, magnesium and other calming sea minerals to release work-worn muscles from the distress of inflammation and stiffness. Natural antibacterial essential oils pamper your body with enduring moisture. Appeasing both body and mind, Hydrating Treatment is a delightful detox.

Teaser Tuesday: When She Woke by Hillary Jordan

TEASER TUESDAYS :
hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading ~

When She Woke
She tried to go back to sleep, but the white light burned through her closed lids, through her eyeballs and into her brain. Even with an arm flung over her eyes, she could still see it, like a harsh alien sun blazing inside her skull.

~ page 6 “When She Woke" ARC by Hillary Jordan

*** Note: This teaser was taken from an ARC edition and the final book may be different***

About When She Woke by Hillary Jordan:

Hannah Payne’s life has been devoted to church and family, but after her arrest, she awakens to a nightmare: she is lying on a table in a bare room, covered only by a paper gown, with cameras broadcasting her every move to millions at home, for whom observing new Chromes—criminals whose skin color has been genetically altered to match the class of their crime—is a new and sinister form of entertainment. Hannah is a Red; her crime is murder. The victim, according to the State of Texas, was her unborn child, and Hannah is determined to protect the identity of the father, a public figure with whom she’s shared a fierce and forbidden love.

When She Woke is a fable about a stigmatized woman struggling to navigate an America of a not-too-distant future—where the line between church and state has been eradicated and convicted felons are no longer imprisoned and rehabilitated but chromed and released back into the population to survive as best they can. In seeking a path to safety in an alien and hostile world, Hannah unknowingly embarks on a path of self-discovery that forces her to question the values she once held true and the righteousness of a country that politicizes faith.

Chuggington: It's Training Time DVD (Wonderful Kids Cartoon)

Chuggington: It's Training TimeChuggington is one of the shows I fully approve of my sons watching, and they both LOVE it, so I was really excited to see they just brought out a new DVD with 6 fun adventures!

I believe this cartoon is both safe (I've never seen anything I had to correct or object to) and educational.  What parent doesn't love cute, fun, lovable characters showing their kids that learning is fun, that following directions is both important and helpful, that being clean is fun, etc?  On top of that, the show is also cute, colorful and entertaining, and not just for kids - I enjoy sitting down and cuddling with my kids while we watch an episode or two.

When I asked my 4 1/2 year old what he liked best about Chuggington, after thinking for a minute, he pointed to Koko (one of the trainees) and said that she has a fun sense of humor while she is learning and she likes to help her friends.  He just reinforced my positive opinion of the show!

This Mom definitely gives her stamp of approval to Chuggington: It's Training Time!

Pompeii, a city that's many things to many people. For Cato, it's the perfect escape from a failed political career in Rome. A place to start again, become a winemaker. But when a corrupt politician wrongfully jails Cato's sister, he must oust the man from power to save her.

For Ariella, Pompeii is a means to an end. As a young Jew, she escaped the fall of Jerusalem only to endure slavery to a cruel Roman general. She ends up in Pompeii, disguised as a young man and sold into a gladiator troupe. Her anger fuels her to fight well, hoping to win the arena crowds and reveal her gender at the perfect time. Perhaps then she will win true freedom.

But evil creeps through the streets of Pompeii. Political corruption, religious persecution, and family peril threaten to destroy Ariella and Cato, who are thrown together in the battle to survive. Too Blessed to be Stressed by Debora M. Coty

Too Blessed to Be Stressed: Inspiration for Climbing Out of Life's Stress-PoolWhat a powerful and helpful book!  We women tend to jump into things with 100% of our hearts and souls, to the point that life sometimes completely stresses us out (of our own doing sometimes).  With a wonderful sense of humor, Debora Coty helps us work through some important key areas that will help us through these tough times: Time Management, Develop a Sense of Humor, Cultivate Relationships, Focus on Faith.

I don't know about you, but I have really struggled with at least two of these broad subjects, so I'm finding lots of great advice in this gem of a book.

The book itself is cute, and the pages are all bordered across the bottom by the blue from the front of the book, which I found strangely soothing in itself.  The chapters are short (making it easy to tackle the topics one at a time, or a bunch... depending on how much time you have free), flow smoothly, include key scriptures, revealing tests to help guide you through the chapter (not in all chapters), special quotes and questions at the end to help you apply the chapter to your life.

Each of the four sections above have ten chapters.  I think this book would be a great devotional for a month if you double up on a few days.  The chapters each seemed to take about 5 minutes to go through, but give plenty to mull over throughout the day.  I highly recommend this book! (And I'll probably give it as a gift to at least one or two of the special stressed-out women in my life)

Then an interview with the right vampire puts her on the trail of Wyatt Earp, vampire hunter.

But her investigations lead her to a clue about enigmatic vampire Roman and the mysterious Long Game played by vampires through the millennia. That, plus a call for help from a powerful vampire ally in San Francisco, suddenly puts Kitty and her friends on the supernatural chessboard, pieces in dangerously active play. And Kitty Norville is never content to be a pawn. . . .
